Reaching puberty became so overwhelming for me. Suddenly I was forced to stick to expectations of being a woman that I did not decide. And neither were they my own. When I think about that time, in the middle of childhood and the entry into the teens and later adulthood, the first image that shows up is the school gym and the subsequent mandatory shower.
